New Trier IHSA Class 4A Girls Sectional Semifinals Review!!!!!

First game tonight was a blowout, the second one was an overtime affair. Both games showed these young women are highly skilled. These games were enjoyable to watch. I don't get to many girls basketball games, but people need to go see these young women play. Here we go:

#1 seed Maine South (Park Ridge) 61 #4 Glenbrook South 41: Top seed Hawks took over this game from the second quarter on. Glenbrook South led 16-10 when I walked in with about 3 minutes to go in first quarter. Maine South proceeded to go on an 18-0 run from the first into the second quarter. Pretty much in the refrigerator after that. Glenbrook South led 16-12 after one quarter. Maine South outscored Glenbrook South 22-6 in second quarter to lead 34-22 at half. Ana Blajojevich (5'9" junior guard) hit 4 threes in the second quarter all 12 of her points in the half. Megan Fahy (5'7" junior) hit 2 threes in second quarter and had 13 points in the first half. Maine South led 48-31 at end of the third quarter. Maine South has a young team that starts 4 juniors and a sophomore. Fahey he'd the Hawks with 16 points, Blajojevich followed with 15 points for only two players in double figures. Glenbrook South Sidney Rogers (5'4 senior guard) had 13 points to lead the Titans, Gina Davorja (5'10" sophomore) had 12 points. Maine South advances with a 25-7 record, Glenbrook South ends season at 25-8. Maine South beat Glenbrook South for the third time this season.

#3 seed Loyola Academy (Wilmette) 69 #2 seed York (Elmhurst) 66 Overtime: This game had some unneeded drama at the end as Loyola Academy missed four straight free throws in the last 15 seconds leading 55-53. Quincy commit Mariann Blass (5'9" senior guard) of York drove to the basket, ran into the Loyola Academy player with 1.5 seconds left. Foul call was a block, while Loyola Academy fans thought it was a charge. Class then hit two pressure free throws to tie the game at 55. Loyola Academy inbounded the ball and Paige Engels (5'7" junior guard) shot a 75 footer a the buzzer that did not come close. Engels took over defensively in the overtime with three huge steals and hit 4 of 6 free throws down the stretch to clinch it. Loyola led 15-10 after one quarter, 30-26 at half, and 41-39 at end of third quarter. Engels ended up with a double/double of 28 points 10 rebounds 3 assists and 4 steals. Claire Weasler (freshman guard) had 10 points 4 rebounds and 2 assists for Loyola. For York, Blass had 31 points (7 for 11 from three) 6 rebounds, Lizzie Baldridge (5'10" senior guard) had 12 points and 4 rebounds.
