IHSA Class A and Class 2A Title Game review!!!!!!!!

Today is the final day of high school basketball in Illinois this season. Championship Saturday started with title games in Class 1A and 2A. Both games were tight, the 2A game was low scoring with a great ending. Here we go:

Class 1A:

#24 Christian(Yorkville) 54 Liberty 41: Yorkville Christian was the heavy favorite but struggling with three point shooting most of the day. That is their repertoire but went 6 for 26 from that territory for the game. They started attacking the basket, specifically senior KJ Vasser. He had 15 points on a variety of drives and finishes in the second half to go along with 7 rebounds. Liberty was not better from three as they went 4 for 20. Duke commit Jaden (6’5”) did not have a great shooting day as he went 4 for 12 and 1 for 6 from three. Finished with 12 points 6 rebounds 4 steals. Senior guard Tyler Burrows filled the stat sheet with 13 points 7 rebounds 5 assists. Yorkville Christian had a fourth player in double figures junior guard David Douglas Jr had 11 points 5 rebounds. Liberty which had a size advantage I felt they did not use enough, had senior guard Cannen Wolf(5’11”) with 15 points 4 assists but went 5 for 19 from the floor and 3 for 14 from three. Senior center Devin Klauser(6’6”) had 13 points 5 rebounds. Yorkville Christian ends season with a State Title at 25-13, while Liberty finishes second with a 30-6 record.

Class 2A:

Nashville 32 Monticello 31: Nashville was down 7 in the middle fo the fourth quarter but came back to win on a layup by senior forward Saxton Hoepker(6’7”) and a game winning block shot with 1 second left. First half was like watching paint dry as Monticello led 11-10 at halftime. Business picked up in the third quarter as both teams scored 25 points between them in the quarter. Most of these players played in the Football title game in the Fall and lost the game. They‘ve also been to State Title games four times now between both sports. They came in second every time till this game. Senior forward Kilten Gajewski(6’5”) led Nashville with a double/double 14 points 11 rebounds 9 of them offensive. Monticello was led by Senior guard Dylan Ginalick(6’0”) with 11 points 3 assists. Senior guard Tanner Buehnerkamper had 10 rebounds. Nashville ends season with a State Title at 30-4, while Monticello finishes second with a 33-4 record.
